The project executor is the association GIS AQUA BG, Sofia, with partners “GIS Aqua—Austria” GmbH, “Bitumina GmbH”, and “Infra Expert” EOOD. 

Nearly BGN 27,000,000 was invested in renovating the facility, which was put into operation in 1986. The station is part of the project to improve the water main in Dobrich under the operational program "Oil Environment," which involved a total investment of BGN 114,901,000.

According to the project parameters, the WWTP is planned for 112,000 equivalent inhabitants and a daily water quantity of 24,000 cubic meters per day. Cleaned water from the WWTP enters the Dobrichka river through a cast concrete channel (175 x 175 cm).

During the construction and expansion of the Dobrich WWTP, the following facts were performed:

• Construction and modernization of the water line: installation of a new line for mechanical sewage cleaning; installation of a new flow meter led aerated sand-oil retainer (APMZ); reconstruction and repair of radial clarifiers; complete reconstruction of the umbilical cords; new bio basins, tested for work in the mode of biological removal of carbon and nitrogen, as well as for the advanced removal of phosphorus, etc.

• Construction and modernization of the sludge treatment line: new sewage treatment plant; loss of two nos. new methane tanks and a new operating system; The loss of the gas (in a new case) for the utilization of biogas and a new gas tank for biogas; laboratory equipment and KIP for sediments.

The construction site for the implementation of the construction and assembly works on the reconstruction and expansion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTP) of the city of Dobrich was opened on March 21, 2018, and the official opening of the site is on February 24, 2020.
